Emily's 1 Year Check Up

Hello! Well, last Wednesday Emily had her 1 year check up with her pediatrician. She weighs 22 pounds and is 30 inches long! She had to get three shots which she did not like at all. I wanted to cry with her! Emily's doing well. She's pulling up on furniture and toys. She is learning more "words" and sounds. Her favorite things to say are "da da", "ma ma", "yeah", "go go goga", "na na na", "yow" and "ha". She is a fast crawler and loves to smile and clap her hands. She has a contagious laugh that is kind of squeaky. I'm starting to give her whole milk and trying to get her to use the sippy cup. Emily can entertain herself pretty well for awhile. She really studies things to see how they work. And she loves books!! She'll turn pages and push them around the house.

She's becoming a better sleeper but some nights she wakes up 2 to 3 times. She takes one long nap during the day which helps me out a lot.

I'll be taking her to get her 1 year portrait done on Friday. That's all for now. I'll try to blog again soon.

Emily's First Birthday Party

It was a fabulous party on Saturday even though it was cloudy and a bit rainy. My parents came up on Friday and got to visit with the birthday girl. They were so amazed by how much Emily's changed. Saturday morning Jon and I were busy with last minute clean up and grocery store trip. Thank goodness my mom and dad came early because they really helped us a lot. Anthony, Daneen and Isabella were able to come despite some car trouble along the way from Katy. We got the house clean and set up for the party. Meanwhile Emily entertained us all with her babbling and playing with cousin Isabella. Finally she took a nap. We had a full house of friends and family. Jon's folks were able to make it so that was really nice.

Emily was a little overwhelmed with everyone but then she quickly got used to the idea. When we did the cake, she did not like all the attention and fussed a little bit in her high chair. After a little while she picked at her smash cake and tasted some frosting and was ok.

Emily received lots of clothes and toys as gifts. It was fun opening all the presents. She kind of lost interest after the second gift and started playing with her other toys. We had lots of food and cake left over. Oh our menu included assorted dips with crackers and veggies, chips and queso, Papa Johns pizzas, a white cake and a chocolate cake, gummy bears and animal crackers, sodas and beer (for the adults ofcourse!).

It was a long day and all three of us were very tired at the end. But we had a great time and now our little baby is one year old.

Happy Birthday Emily

Our baby is officially 1 year old! We are just so impressed with how she's grown and all the things she can do and say. Emily and I went to Story time at the Hurst library yesterday and she wore her birthday girl shirt. When Jon got home we went out to eat at Mimi's Cafe in Grapevine. Emily can sit just fine in a high chair at a restaurant now. I gave her my necklace to play after she ate her peas and puffs. When we got home we gave her a real piece of cake with a candle and she was fascinated by the candle. Before we could stop her, she touched the flame and she did not like that at all! But she was fine. We won't let her touch the candle again.

Trial Run

Hi again! Thought I'd post these pictures because they're funny. I got Emily a pink petit four to practice on before her party. She did not like it at all! She looked at it, tried to swat it off the tray and then just got frustrated. Tomorrow's her actual birthday so I'm going to try again with a real cupcake.

Fun day at the zoo

Hello! Monday we went to the Fort Worth Zoo and had a lot of fun. We got there right when it opened. I guess I was surprised at how many families with small children/babies were there. Emily wasn't sure where she was but became interested in the animals that she could see. Jon and I were like kids pointing to animals and getting excited about the exhibits. I'm not a fan of reptiles but the new exhibit was pretty nice. I really liked seeing the Texas native animals like the coyote and bobcat. We walked through the aviary with Emily and she looked confused watching all the little birds fly around us. We had lunch at the Bluebonnet Cafe and rested before making our way back to the zoo exit. Emily slept on the way home and continued to sleep once we got home. I sure wanted to sleep too! We did a lot of walking.

I'll be blogging soon about party plans!

Spring and Easter

Hello and Happy Easter! May God continue to bless all our friends and family this year. He has truly worked miracles in our lives and "I know that my redeemer lives!"

Just wanted to post some pictures of our dear Emily who will be turning one in a couple of weeks! Gosh, I'm just so not ready for her to be a toddler. I still want my little baby girl. The party plans are going well. I ordered the cake and smash cake from our favorite bakery Creative Memories in Hurst, Texas. They do awesome stuff and their cakes taste so delicious. The cake will be in the shape of the number 1 and will be pink and lavender with lots of roses. The smash cake will be a small square and I cannot wait to see what Emily does with that! I bought some paper plates and napkins that say Happy 1st Birthday. I'm sure I'll be at Party City getting more things like party favors and decorations.

We had a great weekend. On Saturday Jon and I decided to take Emily to a park in Southlake to enjoy the sun. Southlake has the most beautiful homes and neat shopping areas. I guess the people who live there are all doctors and lawyers or lotto winners. Anyway, we strolled around this one big park where there were lots of soccer games going on. Then we found a play area with swings and put Emily in her first swing. She loved it! She laughed when Jon pushed her and took lots of pictures. After the park we went to Central Market to get our lunch/dinner. Central Market is kind of like Whole Foods but on a much bigger scale. We got some enchiladas, Hatch chili queso and blue corn chips. Emily liked riding in the basket.

Sunday morning was Easter and Emily got two Easter baskets! Jon hid some plastic eggs in the living room and the kitchen. And we found them all. I put Emily in a fancy white dress with a pink shrug sweater, pink tights and white shoes for church. She looked like a doll! We made the 11:00 Mass at St. Michaels and sat behind another family with a baby girl. She was so animated and was very interested in Emily. They looked at each other at one point and then reached out their hands as if to say hello. It was too funny!!

Well, I'm blogging while Emily naps and I've got a million things to do so I'll close for now. Enjoy the pictures. I'll blog again soon!
