SMA Summer Camp

The Sky's the Limit!  That was the theme for the week long summer camp at SMA.  Emily got to see some old friends and make new friends.  She also met her new teachers - Ms. Julie and Ms. Kathy.  Each day the SMA hot air balloon went to a different location - New York, France, Antartica, Australia and Brazil.  Emily really enjoyed herself and was so excited to experience something new.

SMA End of School Year Program

Where does the time go?  On May 2, Emily's class had it's annual end of year program.   We all gathered in the Great Hall to watch a slide show of what the children did the past year.  Emily came out in a lot of the slides.  Then the two classes came out and sang songs.  Some kids were a little upset but Emily did a great job and was happy to see mommy, grandma and grandpa in the first row.
Wow, what's going on?

We are ladybugs and we sing!

Letter to Emily on Her Third Birthday

Hi!  I'll post new pictures soon.  I just wanted to post a copy of Emily's birthday letter now.  We started this tradition when she turned one.  I hope to keep this tradition going until she's 18!  We'll see....

Emily’s 3rd Birthday 4/15/12

Dear Emily,

Happy birthday, sweetheart! It seems like only yesterday you were crawling all over the house. You’re not a baby anymore, you’re a toddler. You’ve completed a lot of milestones this past year and I want you to remember them like we do.

After you turned 2 years old, you really took off walking, running and jumping. You wore orthotics with your tennis shoes and they really helped you get around and build your leg muscles. We got rid of your strollers and had you walk all the time. Some of your favorite places to walk were Northeast Mall in Hurst, Grapevine Mills Mall in Grapevine and at the park. We took you to the “duck” park in Irving where you enjoyed watching the ducks and playing on the playground. You also enjoyed playing in the indoor play areas in the malls. One of your favorite things to do at Northeast Mall was to ride the small carousel or “the ducks” as you called it. You really liked sitting in the duck, the car and on the cycle and going round and round. Then you became interested in riding the horses on the big carousels at Grapevine Mills Mall and The Parks Mall.

You and mommy still went to story time at the Euless and Hurst libraries where you met new friends and looked through lots of books. Some of your favorite things to do were coloring pages with big crayons, playing with stickers and playing catch/roll the ball with daddy. Some of your favorite Sprout TV shows were “Play with Me Sesame”, “The Wiggles”, “Monkey See, Monkey Do”, “Caillou”, “Kipper” and “The Mighty Jungle”.

After a few months we got rid of your high chair and got you a booster seat. Your favorite foods were cheese, pizza, goldfish crackers, chicken nuggets, chocolate pudding, juice, popcorn and Gerber fruit pouches. You tried oranges, apples, grapes and strawberries and even took a few bites of celery, broccoli, and carrots. Your favorite toys were trains, cars, puzzles, play food, play kitchen, play dough, and V-tech toys.

Last summer mommy and daddy took a short trip by themselves and Grandma and Grandpa Rivera came to stay with you. You did very well and mommy and daddy really missed you! In the fall you started attending St. Michael’s Academy twice a week. That was such a big step for you! You learned so much while you were there. You also made new friends and you really liked your teachers, Ms. Rina and Ms. Annette. By the end of the year it was time to say good bye to your crib and to sleep in your new twin bed. You made the transition all by yourself.

For your 3rd birthday mommy and daddy took you to The Galleria in Dallas to play in the big play area and then to eat at Sweet Tomatoes. We opened presents at home and had cake. Your birthday party was held at Gymboree in Southlake a few weeks after your turned 3 and most of your classmates and family were there. You had so much fun playing on the mats and slides.

My wishes for you this year are to have fun learning new things and to always know you can count on mommy and daddy to be there for you. We love you very much!

More Milestones

Hello everyone! I'm just in awe of how much Emily has been changing before our eyes. It seems like only yesterday I was wishing she'd walk on her own and now I'm running after her. Her latest milestones include napping and sleeping in her new big bed. At first she wasn't sure about it but over the last couple of weeks she's been getting used to it. Emily is also being potty trained and has had a couple of successes so far. Our little girl is growing up! She also is adding new words and phrases to her vocabulary. She listens to what we say and she tries to repeat it. She likes Snoopy and all the Peanuts gang, The Wiggles, and most everything on the Sprout Channel. She is beginning to show a preference in what she wears. The other morning as I was putting on her pink penguin shirt, she told me she wanted her blue shirt instead. Emily is also trying new foods like apples, celery, carrots, ranch dressing and pizza. She can finally drink from a straw too. It seems like all these things happened within a month! I try my best to keep track of everything she does and so does my mom.

Emily is doing well in school. She loves to make crafts and color. And she loves music and sign language. But she really enjoys playing outside with all her friends on the playground. I think we'll try a dance class or music class next.

Barlett End of Year 2011 Letter

I so meant to post this last year!!

Seasons Greetings to you all! We hope you are enjoying the holiday season with your friends and family. Here’s our holiday letter to let you know what we’ve been up to in 2011.
Jon continued working as a geographer for the Dallas Regional Census Center and I continued working as a fabulous homemaker. Earlier this year Jon and I both got new cars! I got a Honda CR-V and Jon got a Honda Civic. We both turned 40 this summer and threw ourselves a party. In the fall we celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary. God has truly blessed us this year.
Emily finally took her first independent steps right before her 2nd birthday in April. And she started attending St. Michaels Academy in the fall. She really enjoys going to school twice a week. She is learning Spanish and American Sign Language. Her favorite Spanish words are colors like “rojo” and “amarillo”.
As a family we traveled to Llano, San Antonio, Katy and Corpus Christi to visit family. Jon traveled to Washington D.C. and Seattle for work conferences. In the summer Jon and I took a short trip to Las Vegas to celebrate our 40th birthdays. We really enjoyed staying at Caesar’s Palace and sight seeing on The Strip.
The holidays were fun this year. For Halloween Emily dressed up as Minnie Mouse and got lots of candy. Her favorite candies are plain M&Ms. We enjoyed a quiet Thanksgiving at home with all the fixings. Emily ate chicken nuggets and mashed potatoes while we ate turkey. After Thanksgiving Grandpa Bill, Aunt Kristin and Cousin Kyle visited us. We spent Christmas with Grandpa Al and Grandma Mary in Corpus Christi. Emily loved being in grandpa and grandma’s house. She received lots of presents as usual.
We hope your holidays were filled with love and joy. We look forward to the New Year and we wish you and your families all the best in 2012!
Love,
Jon, Felice and Emily Barlett

Happy New Year

I have to say that finding time to blog is a challenge! Stay at Home Moms or SAHMs really don't have much free time. Our Christmas was wonderful. We spent it with my family in Corpus Christi and had a great time even though we were not feeling too good. Emily got lots of toys and clothes and had fun exploring grandpa and grandma's house. I will post our end of year letter in the next blog.

This year seems to be a year of milestones and change for all of us. We'll start potty training for Emily and finally transitioning her to her new twin bed. No more crib! We hope to put her in a dance class or a music class soon. She'll continue to attend St. Michael's Academy on Wednesdays and Fridays until the school year ends in May. As for Jon and myself we'll be looking into more home improvement projects. Jon will also be actively searching for a new job as his office will close in September. Our first choice is to stay in the DFW area. Second choice is to stay in Texas. I can't even begin to think about moving out of state! God will guide us in the right direction.
